County Wexford (Irish: Contae Loch Garman) is one of the twenty-six counties of the Republic of Ireland and one of the thirty-two counties of Ireland. It is located in the province of Leinster. It was named after the town of Wexford (which derives from the Old Norse name Veisafjǫrðr or Waesfjord).[2][3] In pre-Norman times it was part of the Kingdom of Uí Cheinnsealaig, whose capital was at Ferns.[4][5] The population of the county is 131,749 according to the 2006 census. Wexford is the 13th largest of Ireland’s 32 counties in area and 16th largest in terms of population[6]. It is the largest of Leinster’s 12 counties in size and fourth largest in terms of population.
