County Louth (pronounced /ˈlaʊð/ – Irish: Contae Lú)[2][3] is one of the twenty-six counties of the Republic of Ireland and one of the thirty-two counties of Ireland. It is located in the province of Leinster. It was named after the village of Louth. County Louth is affectionately called "the Wee County" being the smallest of the island's 32 counties in area having a total area of only 821 km² (317sq miles).[4][5] It is the 19th largest in terms of population.[6] It is the smallest of Leinster’s 12 counties in size and sixth largest in terms of population. The population of the county is 110,894 according to the 2006 census.
