Glandore (Irish: Cuan Dor, meaning harbour of the oaks) is the name of both a harbour and village in County Cork, Province of Munster, in the south-west of Ireland. Glandore is located about an hour's drive west of Cork city.
The village has several pubs, with traditional music. It is a very popular holiday destination for Irish holiday makers in particular. Famous homeowners include Margaret Jay, former leader of the House of Lords, and Tony O'Reilly. The village yacht club's official headquarters is next to the Glandore Inn. The Rectory is a Georgian listed building that caters to private parties such as birthdays, weddings and anniversaries. Many well known celebrities and high profile names have been through the doors of this venue.
The Irish Coast Guard has a unit based in Glandore at the "Rocket House" at the western end of the village.
The annual regatta takes place the third weekend of August. Rowing and sailing are the main events however there is also swimming, pillow fighting, greasy pole and drinking. In former years there used also be Irish dancing competitions in the village square. The Lar Casey Cup is awarded to the winning Dragon class yacht.
Every 2 years (on odd years) the Glandore Classic Boat Regatta is held during the second week of July. Source: Wikipedia
